The Truth Hurts.. but Lies hurt even more

Part 1: The truth hurts..
So many half truths..
Carefully worded sentences, spoken to protect feelings?
Or just a cowardly self preservation act? Torn reasoning

Crossing that tight rope, that thin line between right and wrong
Grown folk hiding behind a sheet of disbelief.. Faking strong

We ask for the truth but who can really handle the truth?
The cold unedited facts..no outtakes…
Just the raw truth…The whole truth

The truth hurts..

Part 2: ..but lies hurt even more

I was looking through some of my old stuff and I came across this poem I wrote about a year and half ago.. It’s got me thinking.

Why are we like this? People always say they want to know the truth but so often they can’t handle the truth. Is it really the truth they want or for you to tell them what they want to hear?

The truth is real, the truth is ugly..the truth can make you feel uncomfortable. Many do not want to know the truth.

How many times have we all been in a situation where we’ve been honest only for said person to turn around and say they wish they didn’t know the truth.

How many times have you been asked, are you ok? You speak up and say no I’m not ok for that person to reply oh with a look of, why me or to go blank as they wasn’t prepared for that response. They automatically expected you to say yes I’m fine, as that’s what we’d normally do.. not everyone really wants to know the truth it’s just a standard question.. Are you ok? By you saying that you’re ok,it releases them from engaging any further in regards to that subject.

The fear of your truth not being recieved well, is the reason for all the lies in the world. As a people we’ve almost been trained to water down the truth, it’s being done daily all around us. Just look at politics for example. I think those who tell the cold truth are sometimes seen as the peace disturbers, rebels when in reality these people could be the world changers of today.
Don’t be afraid to tell your truth, tell your story, spread your knowledge.. Tell the truth about what you’ve seen and what you know. It’s not your responsibility to sugar coat it in fear of its reception. It’s the recievers responsibility to deal with the truth.

The saying goes, the truth shall set you free.. Is this not the reason for so many relationships where people stay together when they should have parted years ago..partners telling each other sugar coated truths, half truths.. simple lies. The truth shall set you free.

People think they’d rather not know but in the long run the truth always wins.

Tell your truth.

  1. I have so much to say about this. First, I once posted that people would rather hear five lies than one whole truth, and I still believe it to this day. I also think that it’s because we’ve been so conditioned to lie to one another about small and large things that we’ve learned that the truth is somehow “bad” or hard to take. It’s a shame. Last thing, recently (maybe the last two years) I’ve decided to be 100% authentic with everyone in every situation. I’ve never felt better! Now, I will say that in some cases, I’ve had to keep it 95 cause (to go back to the point) fear kept me from expressing the truth. Thanks for this post.

    1. Thanks for this comment, I wrote this in the hours of the morning and did wonder if I was making any sense! 😃 So glad I’m not the only one that feels this way. Authenticity is on the rise, if more people start to tell the truth others will follow 🙌
